Bicycle Workshop in Kirberg and Heringen

Integration through mobility

A bicycle doesn't just offer a little bit of freedom and variety in everyday life, but also enables asylum seekers to get to know their new environment, go shopping or reach important points of contact. This was the idea behind the project “Bicycle Workshop“.

We are looking for bikes to be donated and repaired, using the skills and help of anyone living in the hostel who is interested. The helping hands of the “bicycle workshop“ provide their own tools and are on hand with advice and assistance with the repairs.

The helpers also look after the sourcing of reasonably priced spare parts or “stripping“ write-offs. The bikes are numbered and registered when handed out to refugees.

We have already been able to lend about 17 bikes free of charge and many more are needed! For the coming spring, road traffic safety trainings are planned in Kirberg and Heringen, which should familiarize the new road users with the most important traffic regulations.
